Mom and I are headed to Nashville, Tn to visit my sister and her family…
What a coincidence that Stitches South is in town too!
I just learned they will be having a stitch marker swap so I whipped up a few tonight from my random leftover beads.

MSWF Married Single White Female
Well perhaps after this week away from home on a fiber stash enhancement I might be Single.
I’m Married, White, and Female and this week I was Single.
MSWF = Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival
My new favorite vendor was Flying Goat Farm as evidence by my recent stash enhancement. I purchased so much that they gave me this awesome tote with their fun logo. LOVE IT! This farm is in Frederick, MD and they have dyeing classes that I must find time to come back for.
I also found gorgeous hand-dyed merino from Roz Houseknecht from Rockville, MD. I bought yarn from her 4 years ago the last time I attended MSWF and have carried her business card looking for more ever since.
Red sweater above is one I have loved for years and I decided perhaps if I took its picture one more time maybe I’d remember to actually cast-on!
Each year this retreat has grown by leaps and bounds, with many veteran campers returning with a friend or even two! This year 26 guests enjoyed the cozy weekend accommodations at Camp Stella Maris and 9 more joined us for the Saturday workshops.
We kicked the weekend off right with a Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Tasting. YUM! Everyone brought their favorites to share and we all marveled at the variety.
Friday Evening’s Show & Tell hour turned into a full Evening of Stand Up Comedy. I do not think I have ever laughed so hard, well at least not since last year. Many campers brought in inspiring works of art but we could all relate to the many knitting disasters that stole the show.
Saturday was jammed packed with workshops. We had three workshops to choose from Saturday morning: Knitted Beaded Necklace, Fiesta Mittens, and the Spanish Dancer Shawl. Jane‘s necklace students proved to be quick learners and before they knew it they had a new piece of jewelry. Grammy lead many through the challenging, but fascinating, Fiesta Mitten Pattern and Erin got her students started with the Spanish Dancer Shawl. In the afternoon, some of us relaxed by the fireplace while others continued on the shawl or ventured into another beading technique with Jane’s spiral bracelet.
Saturday evening we enjoyed a few rounds of a Yarn Swap, which lead to a wrestling match and a little exploration of everyone’s creative Notion solutions.
Sunday we sprung ahead with the time change and still managed to fit in a few more Knitting and Crochet Tips & Tricks.
This snapshot sums up our 3rd Annual Rochester Knitting Guild’s Spring Knitting Retreat!
Campers had a wide range of activities to choose from. One could take a Spanish Dancer Shawl workshop, go for a hike, take a knitted beaded bracelet class, experiment with new techniques encountered in the Fiesta Mitten’s workshop, and still have plenty of time for an afternoon Siesta. (perhaps we partied a little late our first night away from home)
Here are just a few preview images, I’ll try to write up a camp recap after I recuperate and catch on my zzzzs!
Here she is out standing on our frozen lake, but she is not a bit cold with this fun hat.
Cat Bordhi never ceases to amaze us with her creative designs!
This Anemone hat is no exception.
I can’t wait to try using this tendril technique on many future projects!
Well I’ve been away for a while but fear not I have not stopped knitting.
I have been very busy working on two huge projects.
1. I’ve been getting ready to have my 1st craft booth at this weekend’s Letchworth Art & Craft Festival.
We have been going to Letchworth for over 20 years as Holiday Shoppers but this year I’m going to try to sell a few fiber related products.
If you have never been to Letchworth State Park I highly recommend it this time of year the colors are AMAZING. There is truly no place on earth I’d rather be than Letchworth on Columbus Day Weekend. Rain or Shine it is wonderful way to welcome the Fall Season.
Come stop by the PetiteTreats Booth G16. (Near the North Shelter)
2. We put one final huge push to get our Children’s Book published.
Pancake’s for Piggies
is soon to be available on Amazon!
I have received the 1st 100 copies and it will debut at Letchworth and be featured at Rhinebeck’s Book Signing Event.
This is a children’s picture book with knitting features throughout the beautiful illustrations. It also includes a knitted pattern for an easy pair of piggy slippers.
Hope to see you soon at one of these events!
I’m not big into the ruffled craze, but I think I have finally found a use for this self ruffling yarn I bought at Stitches 2 years ago, or was it 3? I bought it with the full intentions of using it for pumpkins but I never got around to it until this week.
What was I waiting for? I love how it came out.
Topped with a curly-q vine, this hat is perfect for my lil’ pumpkin!
